How to Play Lawn Bowling

Wooden skittles set on grass, with ten pins and two balls.

Objective:
The goal of lawn bowling with pins is to knock down all the pins by rolling a ball towards them, similar to traditional bowling, but played outdoors on grass or turf.

Setup:

  • Set up 10 pins in a triangular formation, just like traditional bowling. Place them on a flat surface or lawn.

  • The player will roll a ball towards the pins, aiming to knock them all down.

Taking Turns:

  • Players take turns rolling a ball towards the pins from a designated starting point.

  • Each player gets two rolls per turn. After each roll, the pins that are knocked down are counted.

Scoring:

  • If a player knocks down all 10 pins on the first roll, it's called a strike.

  • If all pins are knocked down with two rolls, it's called a spare.

  • If pins are left standing after both rolls, the number of knocked-down pins is counted as the score for that turn.

Winning the Game:

  • The game typically consists of 10 rounds (or frames). The player with the highest total score at the end of the game wins.

Game Tips:

  • Roll the ball with enough speed and control to knock down as many pins as possible.

  • Try to aim for the center of the pin formation for the best chance at knocking down all 10 pins.
