How to Play Ladder Ball

Ladder golf game setup on grass with two wooden stands and bolas.

Objective:
The goal of Ladder Ball is to score points by throwing bolas (two balls connected by a string) onto a ladder-like structure. Players aim to hook the bolas onto one of the three horizontal rungs to score points.

Instructions:

Setup:

  • Set up the ladder with three horizontal rungs, each at different heights: top (highest), middle, and bottom.

  • The player or team will have a set of bolas (typically 3 per player) and will take turns throwing them towards the ladder.

Taking Turns:

  • Players take turns tossing their bolas from a designated throwing line.

  • The objective is to land your bolas on the rungs of the ladder, with each rung corresponding to different point values.

Scoring:

  • Top rung (highest) = 3 points

  • Middle rung = 2 points

  • Bottom rung = 1 point

  • If a bola lands on the rung and stays there, the player scores the corresponding points.

  • Players score for the bolas that land on the ladder during their turn, and only the bolas that stay on the rungs (not those that fall off) count for points.

Winning the Game:

  • The game typically continues until a set number of rounds are completed or until a player or team reaches a certain point threshold, such as 21 points.

  • The first player or team to reach or exceed the winning points (usually 21) wins the game.

Game Tips:

  • Aim for accuracy and control when throwing your bolas to land them on higher rungs for more points.

  • Focus on blocking your opponent’s shots by strategically placing your bolas on the middle or top rungs.
