How to Play Croquet
Objective:
The goal of croquet is to hit your ball through a series of wickets in a specific order and direction and then hit the final stake to win the game.
Instructions:
Setup:
Set up the croquet course by placing six or nine wickets in a specific pattern on the lawn. The wickets should be placed in the correct order, and the final stake is placed at the end of the course.
Each player or team is assigned a colored ball (typically red, blue, yellow, or black).
Taking Turns:
Players take turns using a mallet to hit their ball through the first wicket to start the game.
The ball must go through each wicket in the correct order and direction. Players must hit their ball from one wicket to the next using their mallet.
Scoring:
Each time a player successfully sends their ball through a wicket, they score one point.
The player continues their turn as long as they successfully pass through a wicket or hit another ball (see "Bonus Shots" below).
Once a player passes through all the wickets in the correct order, they must hit their ball to the final stake to finish the course.
Bonus Shots:
If a player hits an opponent's ball during their turn, they earn a bonus shot and can continue their turn.
After hitting an opponent’s ball, the player can either send the ball to a new location or play from that spot.
Winning the Game:
The first player or team to hit their ball through all the wickets and strike the final stake wins the game.
Game Tips:
Strategy is important! Use your mallet to block your opponent's progress and set up your own shots.
Be mindful of the course layout to plan your shots ahead of time, especially when it comes to hitting the final stake.
